TheHazard of Soil Pollution
There’s a good deal of discussion regarding air pollution and how it is hurting our planet, but not that much talk about soil pollution. Soil pollution is a problem that is just as serious as air pollution. It is more difficult to detect since it happens under ground and isn’t that simple to see. Soil can be examined for contaminants and to what degree are the pollutants present.
Contaminated water could easily seep into the soil making the soil polluted. In the event it takes place, plants are not going to grow properly at all and you may not get any flowers or fruit production. Many of the foods we consume have been impacted by pollution in the soil and are usually not very healthy to eat. With the shortage of healthy plants to extract the carbon monoxide from the air, the quality of our air will continue to become worse. Virtually all soil pollution has come about through the neglect or error of humans. What has happened is leaky storage tanks filled with various chemicals are buried in the ground thus leaking dangerous chemicals into the soil. Quite often, anything able to grow is damaged, and nothing is grown there for a long period.
Chemicals enter the soil from a variety of sources, including landfills. For many years, waste would be dumped with wild abandon and no concern for the possible health implications. With rainwater or snow, the water could flush any number of chemicals in to the ground. The harsh chemicals then get into underground water tables or rivers and begin dispersing across a region. At least landfills are now doing a lot of things to preserve the soil from the more deadly chemicals, including putting them in separate areas which have been lined with protective substances.
Pesticide sprays have been sprayed on the land for many years, which has also instigated much damage to the soil. A number of environmental groups are lobbying the government to safeguard the soil from toxic chemicals. But recently, lots of farmers are going organic and government has enforced tough guidelines for selected pesticides. Manufacturers have had to make changes, including using more things that are eco-friendly. The US has the biggest soil pollution problem in the world. Soil pollution in America are a result of no respect for the environment and quick advancement in technology.
With more education, everyone is starting to be more aware of soil pollution, and several things are being done about it. A lot of programs across the nation are trying to find ways to minimize the soil pollution. It’s great that so many people are now into organic gardening, and being more mindful about their health.
